Summer Cocktails: Flowers and Fruits

Summer is creeping up and wedding season is here, what better way to quench your guests thirst with these beautiful and colorful cocktails! I just love the idea of adding a fresh touch with flowers and fruits to your signature drinks for your big day or events. Here are some of my favorites.

Enjoy! Aqua Pearl Makes 2 servings

Ingredients 3/4 cup soursop (guanabana) juice* or pineapple juice 6 tablespoons gin 4 teaspoons fresh lemon juice 4 teaspoons Simple Syrup 1 1/2 teaspoons blue curaçao liqueur 4 dashes of angostura bitters Ice cubes 2 unsprayed purple orchids (optional)

*Soursop (guanabana) juice is similar to pineapple juice and is available at Latin markets nationwide.

Preparation Mix first 6 ingredients in cocktail shaker. Fill with ice. Cover and shake well. Strain into 2 Daiquiri or Martini glasses. Garnish each with orchid, if desired, and serve.

Lillet Rose Spring Cocktail Makes 6 servings

Ingredients 12 ounces Lillet Rose 12 ounces Ruby Red grapefruit juice 6 ounces gin 6 edible flower blossoms (optional)

Preparation Combine 6 ounces Lillet, 6 ounces grapefruit juice, 3 ounces gin, and ice in a cocktail shaker. Shake until well chilled. Strain and divide cocktail among 3 stemmed cocktail glasses, such as Champagne coupes. Repeat.

Garnish with flowers. Serve immediately.

Blackberry-Mint Julep Makes 1 serving

Ingredients Small ice cubes 1/4 cup blackberries, plus 1 blackberry for garnish 2 tablespoons mint leaves, plus 1 mint sprig for garnish 1 tablespoon sugar 1 1/2 ounces bourbon

Preparation Fill a rocks glass halfway with ice cubes. In a shaker, combine the 1/4 cup of blackberries, mint leaves, sugar, bourbon and 1/3 cup of ice cubes and shake well. Strain the drink into the glass through a coarse sieve, pressing on the solids. Garnish with the blackberry and mint sprig.

Agricole-Guava Cooler Makes 1 serving

Ingredients 2 ounces guava nectar 2 ounces rhum agricole 3/4 ounce lime juice 1/2 ounce Simple Syrup 1/2 ounce Navan 2 dashes Angostura bitters Ice 2 ounces club soda Freshly grated cinnamon Mint sprig, cinnamon stick or lime wheel, for garnish

Preparation Fill a shaker with ice. Add the guava nectar, rhum agricole, lime juice, Simple Syrup, Navan and bitters; shake well. Strain into an ice-filled rocks glass; top with club soda and cinnamon. Garnish with a mint sprig, cinnamon stick or lime wheel (or all three).
